Gold is a Girl’s Best Friend
Back into training with a long combo session. A great day on the tracks, with the slightly cooler temperatures the snow is setting up firm and as a result the trails were in fantastic shape. A solid day on the range as well. Some tight groups and a lot of white!
It has been an incredible twenty-something hours for the Team Canada’s Ladies in Sochi. Starting out with Kaillie and Heather’s Golden run. Next up was Jennifer Jones and her rink. Undefeated in round-robin play, finding themselves in the Gold-medal match against Sweden. Sweden going for their third straight Olympic Gold. Canada has won a medal in every Olympics, but only once, in 1998, winning the Gold in Women’s Curling. After some very anxious moments in the fifth end, Team Canada took control and had the match playing into their hands. A missed Swedish shot in the ninth allowed Canada to steal two and seal the victory. The perfect record 9-0, the first Women’s Curling rink to be undefeated at the Games. Next, the Women’s Gold medal Hockey game was anything but dull. The Americans having a two goal lead and looked very much in control late in the third. Canada kept fighting, kept pushing forward and in the end that perseverance proved key. Tying the game up with mere seconds on the clock. Overtime was more of a ping pong match, back and forth, chances for both sides. Finally a nation rose to their feet in celebration- Canada had once again won the Olympic Gold medal. Fourth time in a row! A terrific day to set up momentum for Team Canada as they head into the final three days of the Games.
